Neuro-IFS Integration Sessions
Neuro-IFS Integration is a two-hour session format that pairs an hour of neurofeedback with an hour of Internal Family Systems therapy — so the parts work begins in a nervous system that has already settled.
The comprehensive approach
Some people arrive at therapy wanting to understand themselves better. Others arrive wanting to change and are ready for it — specifically, and without spending years getting there.
The Neuro-IFS Integration is built for the second person.
The format leverages what each modality does best — neurofeedback working from the bottom up, regulating the nervous system directly; IFS working from the top down, addressing the parts and patterns that drive behavior and emotional experience. A more regulated nervous system makes parts work more accessible; parts work reduces the psychological weight the nervous system has been compensating for. This is not a shortcut — psychological healing moves at its own pace and cannot be forced — but each modality addresses the bottleneck that limits the other.
What changes
One client described it as “the shift” — from feeling out of control to being in control again, from confusion and uncertainty to steady ground, from emotional overwhelm and rumination to clarity and calm. For that client, the shift took seven to ten sessions. It was pronounced enough that they noticed it clearly, and it held.
That kind of movement is what this format is designed to support. Not transformation in a single session — but progress that is more concentrated, with more of you available to the work while you are actually in the room.
Over the course of sessions, people describe a different relationship to their own internal experience. Reactions that used to feel automatic begin to have space around them — more room between an impulse and a response, noticing sooner, recovering faster, meeting old situations with more of yourself present.
How a session is structured
Each session is two hours.
The first hour is neurofeedback. Sensors are placed on the scalp, you sit comfortably, and the software runs while the brain receives feedback on its own activity. There is no conscious effort, no performance, no talking required. By the end of the hour, the nervous system is typically settled, regulated, and more available than it was when you arrived.
The second hour is IFS therapy. You move from the neurofeedback chair to the therapy chair, and the parts work begins with a system that is already in a more receptive state. Conversations that would normally take twenty minutes to arrive at are often available within the first few.
That sequencing is the point. In a standard session, a meaningful portion of the hour goes toward helping the system settle enough for the deeper work to happen. This format handles that explicitly, before the parts work begins.
Why one session, not two?
Many people I have seen do neurofeedback and therapy in parallel — neurofeedback one day, therapy another, going along as they feel is right for them. It works, I’ve seen it. It also allows the regulating effect of the neurofeedback to fade between appointments before the parts work can utilize it fully. So it works, but is not ideal.
When the two happen inside the same two-hour window, the regulation is directly available to the work that follows. Parts that had been carrying too much to come forward in a typical session often have the conditions to be witnessed for the first time. What a single sitting can reach changes — not because anything was forced, but because the system was prepared for it.
This is also why the combined format is uncommon. It requires genuine fluency in both modalities held by the same practitioner.
Who this format is designed for
This format is designed for someone who wants the most effective entry point into the work — who has decided to invest in real change and wants a format built to produce it.
It is well suited for:
People coming from other therapy approaches that have not produced the results they were hoping for. If you have done talk therapy, CBT, or other methods and found yourself unable to find the improvements you are looking for, the combination of neurofeedback and parts work often reaches a different layer of the work.
Professionals and parents whose schedules favor depth over frequency — people who would rather do concentrated, effective work when the time they have allows for it.
Individuals who are new to therapy, or skeptical of it, and want a structured and comprehensive approach.
A note from Joshua
The reason I built this format is because I am starkly aware of the depth of challenge that comes along with psychological healing and growth. The standard mental health treatment methods and models work for some, and for many others conventional approaches have real limits for those who seek them. The question of my professional life has been, and continues to be, this: what is the fastest, most effective way to heal psychological suffering and facilitate peak performance. The combination of neurofeedback and IFS are what I have found to be the most effective and comprehensive answer to that question.
As Sebern Fisher says in her groundbreaking book on neurofeedback:
“Fundamentally, the journey from dysregulated trauma survivor to well-regulated peak performer is the journey of brain regulation. Once you begin to use neurofeedback, you realize that this training is not just about quieting negative symptoms of trauma but about enhancing the potential of this person in all realms.
When patients are released from the grip of fear, they naturally open to their full potential. The optimal performance brain is the same brain (physically, not functionally) as the traumatized brain, just regulated.”
I want you to feel better, to be better, and to live up to your highest capabilities in whatever avenues those might be.
